How to wash a silk garment: practical guide

Have you bought a silk dress, but are wondering how best to wash it? Here is a practical guide for you.

Silk dresses, trousers, tops and skirts color our wardrobe. And what about a touch of style to complete the outfit with jute and silk hair bands and bags?

Among the favorite fabrics of Bijondo production, silk gives us softness and elegance. In summer it is fresh and breathable and suitable for those who love sustainability.

It is a natural fabric that needs a little more pampering to maintain its beauty over time.

First tip for washing a silk garment: check the label

It is a precious ally to consult whenever we are in doubt about the washing to do. Look at the symbols and follow the instructions, each dress has its own needs.

It's true, very often the labels are annoying on the skin and we tend to cut them off. But this time wait before you take the scissors!

Second tip: hand wash

It is certainly the most suitable method. The water temperature should be cold or lukewarm at best. Remember not to use aggressive detergents, better a mild detergent or neutral soap.

What to do in case of stains? Leave the garment to soak, rub gently. Do not use tools such as brushes or anything else that could damage the fibres. Do not squeeze vigorously to remove excess water, but roll up the garment by applying light pressure.

Third tip: washing in the washing machine

Have you consulted the label and is there the washing machine symbol? In this case, use a program for delicate items or a specific wash for silk. Also in this case the water temperature must not exceed 30 degrees. And the centrifuge? Better to avoid it so as not to annoy the fibers.

Dry a silk garment

Once you've gently squeezed out the excess water, hang your dress on a hanger.

Do not expose it directly to sunlight and avoid the dryer.

Now that you know how to take care of them, all you have to do is take a look at our collection of silk garments: have you seen our new kimonos yet? They are already bestsellers!
